“Dear people of Kyrenia;

The whole world and our country are going through a period when they are not used to much. We are in a fight against a virus that threatens the health of its people in all countries of the world. And this struggle is actually an exam for all of us about crisis management.

We are working to maintain this challenging process in Kyrenia with great devotion since the middle of March, by meeting with our municipal staff, our people, non-governmental organisations and helpful business people and citizens.

We are working hard for many people, such as those living alone, those who have a low-income, those who have lost their jobs, students, patients, relatives of our patients and citizens over the age of 65.

The distribution of food and hygiene products to every home that needs a thought with the idea of ​​“No one should stay without food” continues from the first day of the epidemic in our country. We deliver food packages to 350 homes a day with our team of 30 people.

In this process, it was very important for us to protect our adults in the high-risk group over the age of 65. And we are working to help them with medicine, pharmacy, market.

In our region, together with the Kyrenia Municipality and Ministry of National Education, we provided free internet installation for our students who are deprived of online education. We try to help our people to the best of our ability. Speaking of our opportunities, I would like to state that twenty-five percent of wages that has been cut by the government is not acceptable to the municipalities, who are working hard on the field during these troubled days such as, collecting garbage, carrying out disinfection works, and distributing food.

On the other hand, if I continue to talk about the works we have done in this process; while we are disinfecting in our routine disinfection program at the District Governorship, Police Headquarters, State-Public Service Buildings and Kyrenia Municipality Main Service Building, branches and cash points, we continued our application in public areas as well.

Our police and health branch teams also tightened market, butcher and bakery inspections in order to protect public health and ensure hygiene conditions.

In this process, we continued to leave dry food and bowls of water in parks and gardens for the stray animals who have difficulty in finding food.

We organised tours that broadcast music with our open-top vehicle to give morale to our people who are staying at home. We made our call to stay at home.

Yes! It is a risky process and in fact, those of us working in the field are also at high-risk. For this reason, we have provided training for our staff on this process. We have provided them with masks, gloves and protective clothing. And we did the Covid-19 test in cooperation with the Ministry of Health for all our staff working on the field, including myself. From here, I would like to thank my staff who made great sacrifices in this process.

There is nothing more important than the health of our people and human life in these difficult days. We all watched how this virus has spread in the world and how other countries got into a dead end with late measures. Therefore, I will have some requests from you. Please stay in your home during this process that is unknown how long it will take. Follow the hygiene rules. The best we can do to ourselves and our loved ones will be to take this issue seriously. Difficult days will surely end. It is possible that the days when everything will be much better will come by you and everyone while staying at home during this process and comply with the rule of distance and hygiene.
